2012.04.23 Monday Morning Message

Greetings and all good wishes from Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, located in the heart of Vinita, Oklahoma.

A young cynic was depressed by the evil and suffering in the world.  He complained, "Why did God make a world like this?  I could make a better world than this."

His wise teacher answered, "That's exactly the reason God put you into the world...to make a better world.  Now, go and do your part."

The Christian gospel is about changed lives, renewed faith.  Though dependent upon God, God gave us the gift of free will, and God depends on us to choose wisely.  God cannot make a peaceful nation and world unless we root out hatred from our hearts.  God cannot build healthy families unless we work with God to bring sharing love and mutual respect to our relationships.  God needs each one of us.

Now, go and do your part!

Greetings and best wishes from Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Vinita, Oklahoma.
 
Some of you reading this Monday Morning Message know little or nothing about our Church. Did a mutual friend invite you to visit our blog? A big thanks to whoever that might be! I hope you'll return next week and that you'll invite someone else to be a part of our off-site/on-line outreach.

Our 128 year-old Church is a welcoming, healthy congregation. We know that no one lives by bread alone. From as long as we can go in history, human beings have exhibited a need for religion. Cave drawings indicate that ancients worshiped one kind of deity or another.

For Christians, the development of religion reached its climax in Jesus of Nazareth. Revolting against hardened ritual and pious self-righteousness, Jesus showed us how to live in relation to God and toward one another. (Try reading John, chapter 15). Love is complex. For me, at least, its opposite is not hate but indifference. It's a lifetime task to ward off indifference!

Courage for today in your determination to overcome indifference!

Precisely for that reason we need a sense of discrimination!

"Discrimination?!" That's a fighting word, a dirty word, in today's world. Of course, it can be a dangerous social disease, yet we need a sense of discrimination if we are going to invest our time and thoughts and activities wisely..

The capacity to discriminate, to distinguish, is a precious gift. We have to discriminate in our choices or we'll clutter our lives with prejudice, jealousy, greed and hatred.

Take great care in cultivating your fine art of discrimination.

We always talk about dependence on God, forgetting that God also depends on us for so many things.

God cannot make a peaceful world unless we help him root out hatred, prejudice and injustice.

God cannot build a happy home unless husband and wife have a sharing spirit and mutual respect.

God heals the sick but not without doctors, nurses, hospitals and their staff, research, prayers and encouragement of family and friends.

God needs us. We certainly need God. We are joined in a great partnership.
